Technology Professional Development
(3)
The WCSD Technology Department provides many different kinds of training for teachers, staff and administrators. Every summer the months of June and July are almost completely scheduled with training events; most of those events take place in the Technology Training Center which is across 1st East from Dixie Middle School. Most of the training is done through two-day course offerings where credit for professional development training at the 5000 level is available through SUU.
The WCSD Technology Department also offers the course work so that educators can complete the Educational Technology Endorsement Program (ETEP). An ETEP cohort of teachers is formed at the beginning of the school year, and those teachers accepted into the cohort take classes throughout the school year, one night a week, to earn credit towards the Educational Technology Endorsement. The Washington County School District is the only school district to offer this program. Otherwise the ETEP is earned through courses taken through the state Universities.
Most importantly, WCSD Technology offers just-in-time on-site training to any teacher, PLC, or school that requests the training. WCSD technology is prepared to offer 45 minute training sessions on most of the technologies and software available through the district. This includes training on interactive white boards, instant response systems, PowerTeacher, PowerSchool, UTIPS and other district provided software.
To request training use the "Training Request" link in the box to the right or send an email or call the WCSD Technology Office

Secondary Schools
(2)
The schools in Washington County work together in a cohesive manner to contribute to the success of each individual student. Feeder schools let us know what and how a student moves through grade levels from elementary to high school. A students success can be tracked back to kindergarten due to our "cone site" model.
This section also will give an overview of the innovative ideas and processes implemented in the schools to bring about success for each individual student.

Emergency Preparedness
(8)
The Washington County School District works in partnership with local law enforcement, public safety and county emergency management to prepare for emergency conditions in our schools. Each school has developed and implemented a comprehensive plan for responding to a variety of natural disasters and hazardous situations including earthquake, lahar, fire, bomb threat, and hazardous materials incidents. Staff and students practice appropriate responses including evacuation and shelter-in-place.
Our system for managing school emergency situations provides students, staff and parents with a plan and a sense of security. Student safety is our focus and guides our decisions. Staff members have been assigned specific tasks they are responsible for during an emergency situation. Exhibiting leadership during a school evacuation or providing first aid are as important as communicating information to parents and organizing student relocation centers. Our facilities are equipped with emergency supplies, radios and equipment that may be necessary to shelter students.

SECONDARY I CORE STANDARDS NEW!!!
The mission of mathematics education in Utah is to promote students growth and learning in mathematics in order to prepare students to thrive and contribute in the global economy of the 21st Century.
Helpful Hints for Parents:
Mathematical habits of mind support the acquistion of mathematical understanding and skills. These habits include the five process standards, which have become common parlance in mathematics classrooms: problem solving, communication, reasoning, connections, and representation. Students with mathematical habits of mind also possess a disposition and willingness to approach mathematics, to persevere in the face of mathematical difficulties, and to appreciate the accomplishment that comes with finding solutions and understanding concepts.
