SOUTHERN UTAH Science and Engineering Fair (Grades 9-12)

The Southern Utah Science and Engineering Fair seeks to advance science education in the rural counties of Southern Utah by encouraging participation by students in grades 5-12 in the scientific process. In addition, it supports the Utah Science Core Curriculum, which states in part, "It is not enough for students to read about science; they must do science." Out mission is to offer students who might or might not consider science as a career choice a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in an international science competition. Our goal is to become Utah's premier regional science fair.
AXA Achievement Community Scholarship
A $2,000 college scholarship is available for students who have amtition and drive - determination to set and reach goals - have respect for self, family and community - Have the ability to succeed in college.
Application deadline is by the 1st week in February.

Best Buy Scholarship Program (update 1/2012)
This scholarship is offered to students in the 9-12 Grade. 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Students need to have solid grades and be involved in volunteer community service or document work experience.

Burger King Scholars (BKS) Program
Scholars awards are $1000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. For a student to qualify, he/she must be a high school senior and a U.S. resident that meets the BKS criteria. Applicants must be high school seniors graduating from high schoolr or from a home school education, who maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, demonstrate participation in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college, univeristy or vocationa/technical school by the fall term of the high school graduating year, and be a U.S. or Canada resident.
Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program
American Cancer Society- This scholarship provides funding each academic year in increments of $2,500 per student for young cancer survivors to pursue their post-secondary education from an accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school. Scholarship criteria includes: Must be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and must be age 25 or younger at the time of application,; Scheduled to graduate from high school in the upcoming school year; Must be a US citizen and a resident of Utah; Must have a 2.5 GPA or above; Must be accepted and become a full-time student at the above mentioned college or university.
CO-OP Scholarship Program
These merit co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and community college transfer students who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of the following NCCE (national Commission for Cooperative Education) Partner Colleges and Universities: Drexel University; Johnson & Wales University; Kettering University; C.W. Poist Campus of Long Island University; Northeastern University; pace University; Rochester Institute of Technology; University of Cincinnati; University of Toledo; Wentworth Institute of Technology. the National Commission encourages minority and female students as well as students interested in Science-Math-Engineering-Technology (SMET) to apply for a merit co-op scholarship.
CTE- Career and Technical Education Scholarships and Tuition Awards (update 1/2012)
College scholarships are now available to high school seniors. These scholarships are for one year of college or ATC tuition only. The scholarships are availabe to students seeking associate's degrees or less, or seeking to be school teachers in CTE areas.

Dr. Seuss's Oh, The Places You'll Go! College Scholarship Program
Applicants must be 12th grade high school students graduating spring of 2010, age 21 years or younger. Compositions are judged by technical merit. Writing should show a strong, clear voice by authors who are original, creative, and draw clear connections back to Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! Compositions should answer the question fully and should be original works, no plagiarism, no copyright infringement. First place winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship paid directly to a post-secondary institution.
ESSAY QUESTION: Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! delivers an important message about the chances and the troubles that life presents. Thinking about the book, Oh, The Places You'll go!, what kinds of opportunities and challenges do you think your education will present in the future?

ELKS NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
THE LEGACY AWARDS
This scholarship is awarded to any child or grandchild of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2008 or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2008. The Elk must also be a paid-up memember. Great grandchildren are not eligible. Legacy awards are $4000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for four years. The foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards.

General Electric (GE) Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
George H. Hansen Fellowship at BYU (update 1/2012)
This fellowship in the amount of $500-$1000 is to be awarded to outstanding high school seniors who desire to become geologist, environmental geologists, geological engineers, or earth and space science teachers. Student muct be a graduating high school senior, must enroll as a geology, environmental geology, earth and speca education, or engineering geology major, must continue in one of these majors according to a progressive program, must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA; must abide by all BYU standards of conduct. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from teachers concerning academic qualifications, submit a letter stating desire to pursue a geology career and why he/she believes he/she qualifies for the fellowship, submit a copy of high school transcripts.

Dixie State College Ambassador Leadership Program
This is a student organization built with the intent to help potential students to become DSC students. Characteristics we look for in potential Ambassadors are fun, out-going personalities with great communication skills. Benefits of the scholarship include a full in-state tuition scholarship available for four years, involvement in DSC activities, great experience for a job resume, social networking for now and later, and instant group support.

KFC Colonel's Scholars (update 1/2012)

Southern Utah Science and Engineering Fair (SUSEF)
It is the goal of the Southern Utah Science and Engineering committee to provide a venue where students can present a project and share the lessons they have learned in their classrooms, combined with their own interests and discoveries. Student in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the SUSEF Senior Fair. Students may have an opportunity to win prize money and scholarships.

The Society of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Utah Chapter
Three $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors who will be majoring in business, finance or insurance in Fall 2009. The mission of this organization is to fulfill the needs of Utah's insurance industry by developing profesisonals with the highest ethical standards, promoting continuing education; and providing forums for discussiona nd resolution of issues facing the indsutry today.

University of Utah ACCESS Scholarship for Women in Science and Mathematics (update 1/2012)
Students must be admitted to the University of Utah as a matriculated (degree seeking) student to be awarded a scholarship. The ACCESS Scholarship is a cash stipend award ($3,500.00) that does not conflict with most University scholarships such as Honors at Entrance, Leadership, and Diveristy scholarships. Student who choose to accept the ACCESS Scholarship award, if offered, are required to attend the seven-week summer course, UGS 1430 Integrated Science.

University of Utah Alumni Association
The scholarships ($2000 each) will be awarded to students who graduate from Southern Uhigh schools and will either be entering as freshman or undergraduate students at the University of Utah. Each scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, and service to the community and school. Applicants must provide an official high school or college transcript, two-page, double spaced essay on academic plans, plans after college; why choosing the U; expectation from the U; explain why you deserve the scholarship over other applicants; describe life experiences that should be considered; include information that might help the committee in making a choice; describe fianancial needs that may warrant special consideration.

•Thatcher Company Scholarship in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering - This scholarship is a four-year, full tuition plus books scholarship for a student beginning his or her freshman year the the Uof U and majoring in chemistry or pre-chemical engineering.
•Freshman Scholarship in Science and Mathematics - This $1,000 scholarship is for incoming freshman majoring in biology, chemistry, math or physics.

YES Abroad Program
This scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational And Cultural Affairs. This scholarship can provide full scholarships for American teens to live and study in YES partner countries for one academic year. Five scholarship will be awards in each of these YES partner countries: Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Applying students must be between 15-18 years old and have a minimum of 3.0 GPA. There are no language requirements attached to this scholarship.
