desire roden

The Washington County School District is pleased to announce the selection of Desirae Roden as the Principal of Tonaquint Intermediate School. Desirae will replace Principal Barbara Garrett upon her retirement on July 1st, 2019.

Desirae was raised in Shelley, Idaho and boasts that she grew up with the distinct honor of being a Russet, Shelley High School being the only school in the nation with a potato for a mascot. After graduating in 1997, Desirae attended Southern Utah University where she majored in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis on teaching. She graduated in 2001 and went back to receive her Master’s Degree and administrative endorsement from SUU a few years later.

Desirae began her teaching career at Green River High School. While at GRHS, she taught every FACS class along with being the Student Council Adviser, and was an assistant coach for the volleyball and girls’ basketball teams. In 2004 she moved to St. George and began teaching FACS at Hurricane High School. She became the assistant principal at Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School in 2009, and for the last ten years has enjoyed working with their staff and students. She is quick to note that she will miss being a part of such a great school. At the same time, she looks forward to developing great relationships at Tonaquint Intermediate and is excited for the opportunity to be the next principal of that school.

Desirae has two children and has been married for nearly twenty years to her husband, Dan, who teaches Language Arts at Snow Canyon Middle School. She loves learning, reading, spending time outdoors and has recently discovered kayaking!

Please join with us in congratulating Desirae Roden in her new assignment.
