Behavior<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washk12.org\/mental-health-wellness\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2024\/03\/quick_facts_on_oppositional_defiant_disorder___child_mind_institute.pdf\">Quick Facts: Opposition Defiant Disorder<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span>In 1952, Florence Chadwick attempted to swim 26 miles between the California Coast and Catalina Island.\u00a0 She traveled with a support team ready to assist her, if needed, and keep a lookout for sharks.\u00a0 Fifteen hours into her swim, a thick fog set in.\u00a0 Swimming in foggy, frigid, shark infested waters, she began doubting her ability to reach the island.\u00a0 She let her team know she wanted to quit, but continued to swim for another hour.\u00a0 She then called it quits.\u00a0 After climbing into the boat, they soon discovered she was only 1 mile from the Catalina shoreline.\u00a0 She swam 25 miles and fell short of her goal.\u00a0 Two months later she tried the swim once more, again the thick fog set in.\u00a0 However, this time she had a mental image of the shoreline in her mind as she pushed herself through.\u00a0 She succeeded and went on to make the swim two more times.\u00a0 Chadwick eventually became the first woman to swim the english channel in both directions, in record times.\u00a0 I wonder if she ever thought she would be able to do that?<\/span><br \/><span>Right now, we may feel like we&#8217;re swimming in the fog, with no clear view of the shoreline.\u00a0 However, just because we may not be able to see it, doesn&#8217;t mean it isn&#8217;t there.\u00a0 What is your shoreline?\u00a0 What do you want to do, but have doubts you can?\u00a0 The fog doesn&#8217;t have to change your end goal.\u00a0 This week, start visualizing your shoreline, in spite of the fog.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s all work to keep swimming and allow our support teams to help us.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span>Imagine yourself doing what you want to do, becoming who you want to become. <\/span>Only\u00a0<i>we\u00a0<\/i>can make our vision a reality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washk12.org\/mental-health-wellness\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2024\/03\/envision_orig-Photoroom.png-Photoroom-e1709316926982.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viacharacter.org\/character-strengths\">Discover your character strengths<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washk12.org\/mental-health-wellness\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2024\/03\/icons_classification_adult2.pdf\">24 Character Strengths<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washk12.org\/mental-health-wellness\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2024\/03\/youthstrengthicons2020-scaled.jpg\">Youth Strengths<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: black;\">Author, Robert Pirsig described in his book an &#8220;old way&#8221; to trap a monkey. He said, the trap \u201cconsists of a hollowed-out coconut, chained to a stake. The coconut has some rice inside which can be grabbed through a small hole\u201d. The monkey\u2019s hand fits through the hole, but his clenched fist can\u2019t fit back out. \u201cThe monkey is suddenly trapped.\u201d\u00a0<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: black;\">He is not able to see that it is his own fist that traps him, his own desire for the rice.<br \/>He rigidly holds on to the rice, because he values it.\u00a0 He cannot let go.\u00a0<br \/>Letting go is difficult in the best of circumstances.\u00a0 Collectively, we are all grieving the loss of our way of life pre-COVID.\u00a0 Grief is painful and often creates suffering.\u00a0 Elisabeth Kubler-Ross identified the<br \/>5 stages we go through when experiencing grief:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: black;\"><i><strong>denial<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>anger<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>bargaining<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>depression<\/strong>\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i><strong>acceptance.<\/strong><\/i><br \/>It&#8217;s likely we have all experienced these stages for ourselves over the past few months.\u00a0 Keep in mind, these do not occur in order and the time spent in each stage is unique for each of us.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As we move forward and adapt to a changing environment, it may be helpful to recognize what stage we are in and identify when we are rigidly holding onto something that is no longer serving us.\u00a0 Upon closer inspection of what we value, what we categorize as important, and what really matters to us, we may discover there are things we can let go of, allowing us to move forward in a more<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>present, grateful, intention, connected,<\/i><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>kind<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>way.\u00a0<br \/>Doing this for ourselves<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>first,<\/i><span>\u00a0<\/span>will allow us to show up this way for others.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washk12.org\/mental-health-wellness\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2024\/03\/present-intentional-grateful-connected_orig-Photoroom.png-Photoroom-e1709318738776.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cAcceptance is not about liking a situation. He said, the trap \\u201cconsists of a hollowed-out coconut, chained to a stake. The coconut has some rice inside which can be grabbed through a small hole\\u201d. The monkey\\u2019s hand fits through the hole, but his clenched fist can\\u2019t fit back out. \\u201cThe monkey is suddenly trapped.\\u201d\\u00a0<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/span><span style=\\\"color: black;\\\">He is not able to see that it is his own fist that traps him, his own desire for the rice.<br \\\/>He rigidly holds on to the rice, because he values it.\\u00a0 He cannot let go.\\u00a0<br \\\/>Letting go is difficult in the best of circumstances.\\u00a0 Collectively, we are all grieving the loss of our way of life pre-COVID.\\u00a0 Grief is painful and often creates suffering.\\u00a0 Elisabeth Kubler-Ross identified the<br \\\/>5 stages we go through when experiencing grief:\\u00a0\\u00a0<\\\/span><br \\\/><span style=\\\"color: black;\\\"><i><strong>denial<\\\/strong>,\\u00a0<strong>anger<\\\/strong>,\\u00a0<strong>bargaining<\\\/strong>,\\u00a0<strong>depression<\\\/strong>\\u00a0<\\\/i>and\\u00a0<i><strong>acceptance.<\\\/strong><\\\/i><br \\\/>It's likely we have all experienced these stages for ourselves over the past few months.\\u00a0 Keep in mind, these do not occur in order and the time spent in each stage is unique for each of us.\\u00a0\\u00a0\\u00a0As we move forward and adapt to a changing environment, it may be helpful to recognize what stage we are in and identify when we are rigidly holding onto something that is no longer serving us.\\u00a0 Upon closer inspection of what we value, what we categorize as important, and what really matters to us, we may discover there are things we can let go of, allowing us to move forward in a more<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><i>present, grateful, intention, connected,<\\\/i><span>\\u00a0<\\\/span>and<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><i>kind<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/i>way.\\u00a0<br \\\/>Doing this for ourselves<span>\\u00a0<\\\/span><i>first,<\\\/i><span>\\u00a0<\\\/span>will allow us to show up this way for others.<\\\/span><\\\/p>\",\"margin\":\"default\",\"text_align\":\"center\"},\"name\":\"Grief & Acceptance\"}]},{\"type\":\"column\",\"props\":{\"image_position\":\"center-center\",\"position_sticky_breakpoint\":\"m\",\"vertical_align\":\"middle\",\"width_medium\":\"1-2\"},\"children\":[{\"type\":\"image\",\"props\":{\"image\":\"https:\\\/\\\/www.washk12.org\\\/mental-health-wellness\\\/wp-content\\\/uploads\\\/sites\\\/19\\\/2024\\\/03\\\/present-intentional-grateful-connected_orig-Photoroom.png-Photoroom-e1709318738776.png\",\"image_height\":\"400\",\"image_svg_color\":\"emphasis\",\"image_width\":\"400\",\"margin\":\"default\",\"text_align\":\"center\"}},{\"type\":\"text\",\"props\":{\"column_breakpoint\":\"m\",\"content\":\"\n\n<p style=\\\"text-align: center;\\\">\\u201cAcceptance is not about liking a situation.
