The McKinney-Vento Act defines &#8220;homeless children and youth&#8221; as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QiCVd1tnG4T8z6WheJ6dFuURzV2RXwo3mjI2-yJT_bs\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homeless Brochure<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The term includes children and youth who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason (sometimes referred to as doubled-up).<\/li>\n<li>Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to lack of alternative adequate accommodations.<\/li>\n<li>Living in emergency or transitional shelters.<\/li>\n<li>Abandoned in hospitals.<\/li>\n<li>Unaccompanied youth.<\/li>\n<li>Children and youth who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.<\/li>\n<li>Children and youth who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings.<\/li>\n<li>Migratory children who qualify as homeless because they are living in circumstances described above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any student living in any of these circumstances has the right to a fair and free education just like any other student.
