package of 8+<br \/>1&#8243; 3 Ring Binders<br \/>Backpacks<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Homeless Info<\/h3>\n<p>McKinney &#8211; Vento<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>According to the McKinney-Vento Act, if your child lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including any of the following situations, your child may qualify as homeless:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a shelter.<\/li>\n<li>In a motel or campground due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodation.<\/li>\n<li>In a car, park, abandoned building, or bus or train station.<\/li>\n<li>In a residence without basic utilities (power, water, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or economic hardship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then your eligible children have certain rights and protections available to them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Receive a free, appropriate public education.<\/li>\n<li>Enroll in school immediately, even if lacking documents normally required for enrollment.<\/li>\n<li>Enroll in a school and attend classes while the school gathers needed documents.<\/li>\n<li>Free meals and all school fees waived.<\/li>\n<li>Enroll in the local school; Please see your child&#8217;s school to access these items.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Waterford Upstart<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><families of=\"\" prek=\"\" children=\"\" in=\"\" span=\"\">All Pre-K Washington County children are eligible to participate in<span>\u00a0Waterford Upstart,\u00a0<\/span>a free at-home learning program. It includes an adaptive learning path in reading, math, and science, along with family support and coaching in English or Spanish. <\/families><\/p>\n<p><families of=\"\" prek=\"\" children=\"\" in=\"\" span=\"\">Children use the program at home for 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week to build foundational learning skills through fun, educational songs and activities. <\/families><\/p>\n<p><families of=\"\" prek=\"\" children=\"\" in=\"\" span=\"\">A computer and internet access are even available at no cost to qualifying families.<\/families><\/p>\n<p>Enroll at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waterford.org\/upstart\/\">https:\/\/www.waterford.org\/upstart\/<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Holiday Help (November and December only):<\/h4>\n<p>Thanksgiving &#8211; The St George Basket Brigade is a local non-profit group who supports needy families in the Washington County with a Thanksgiving dinner. Please contact your child&#8217;s school counselor for nominating information at least 2 weeks before Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas &#8211; There are several non-profit agencies who help needy families in the area for Christmas. This all begins with the Kony Coins For Kids program who start taking referrals the first of November.
