Occupational Therapy

In a school setting, occupational therapy (OT) services support students’ ability to fully participate in their educational environment by promoting independence, access, and functional skills. School-based occupational therapists collaborate with educators, families, and other specialists to either remediate or provide accommodations in areas that impact a student’s ability to access their curriculum.  Some of the areas of expertise include fine motor skills, visual perception, self-care tasks, and sensory processing.  Services are provided through direct intervention, consultation, or classroom modifications, and are always aligned with a student’s IEP or 504 Plan. The focus is on helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in daily school routines — from managing materials and using tools to regulating emotions and navigating transitions.
