Speech and Language Services

Speech Team Standing in front of district office

Our speech team in WCSD, is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based therapy to ensure high levels of learning for all students. Our speech and language services cover a broad range of areas, including—but not limited to—the following:

  • Articulation and Phonology
Our SLPs are highly trained to address a wide range of speech sound disorders, from complex sound error patterns in preschool-aged children to persistent articulation issues in later childhood and adolescence.
  • Students with Autism
Our speech team is deeply committed to empowering students with Autism in developing their communication skills. We support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and provide individualized strategies to ensure each student receives the support that best suits their needs.
  • Gestalt Language Processors (GLP)
Our team has received specialized training to support students who process language holistically. This ensures we are using the most appropriate and effective approach to meet each student’s unique communication style.
  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
Many of our therapists are highly trained in the treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech, a complex motor speech disorder. We are equipped to provide intensive, individualized therapy using research-based methods.
  • Fluency Disorders
All of our therapists have completed coursework in treating stuttering and other fluency disorders. They also participate in ongoing professional development. Our approach includes not only improving speech fluency but also addressing students’ feelings and attitudes about speaking to build confidence and communication competence.
  • Language Therapy
We provide comprehensive language therapy to support students with receptive and expressive language delays and disorders. This includes building vocabulary, improving sentence structure, developing understanding of language concepts, and enhancing narrative and conversational skills. Therapy is tailored to support academic success and everyday communication, fostering language development in both social and educational contexts.
