- Research shows a link between Kidney Disease and Heart Disease.
- Kidney disease tends to run in families. If you have kidney disease, encourage family members to get tested. Use the Family Health Reunion Guide tips and speak with your family during special gatherings.
- Research has shown that the DASH Eating Plan may help lower blood pressure.
- The NIH Body Weight Planner is an online tool to help you tailor your calorie, and physical activity plans to achieve and stay at a healthy weight.
- If you have trouble sleeping, Take Steps To Improve Your Sleep Habits.
- Learn how to manage stress– Through Meditation, Yoga, or Tai Chi.
- Regularly use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Ibuprofen and Naproxen.
- Learn more about over-the-counter medicines and your kidneys.
WHO AND WHEN TO REFER:
- ANY patient with kidney disease.
- ANY patient with an auto-immune disease
- Blood in the urine.
- Recurrent kidney stones.
- Difficult to treat edema.
- Persistent electrolyte abnormalities. DESPITE intervention
- Acid-Base disturbances require assistance.
- Vasculitis with renal manifestations.
- Hereditary kidney disease
- Hypertension refractory to treatment with 4+ antihypertensive agents
- Urinary red cell casts are not explainable.
- Progression of CKD.
- Proteinuria/Albuminuria is independent of ANYY eGFR.
- Albumin/Creatinine Ratio > 30 mg/g.
