Health Training for School Staff
Both Vector (formerly Safe Schools) training and the various resources linked below on this Health Training page are used to train unlicensed school staff to meet the medical needs of our students. Hands on, physical skills training may also be required after completion of online training.
Coordinate with your assigned school nurse to determine which health related trainings you will need to complete.
Staff administering medication to students must complete the training as outlined in the Medication section below.
Secretaries must compete the General Health Training Requirements below and additional training as needed.

After logging into Vector, locate the health related trainings you will need to complete by clicking on the arrow on the far left. This will take you to Extra Training. Scroll down and choose Health . Complete the Vector trainings outlined in the above General Training Requirements link above and submit copies of your certificates to your assigned school nurse.
Administration of emergency adrenal crisis medication requires school staff to complete the Utah Department of Health & Human Services Adrenal Insufficiency Course, click here.
The Utah Department of Health & Human Services (UDHHS) recommends this quick 10 minute course from the Food Allergy Research and Education organization (FARE). After viewing, give a copy of your certificate to your assigned school nurse.
Many of our students have a known allergy, with an Allergy & Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan (AAEP) form on file. Review the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan form, here.This form must be completed, signed by parent/guardian and healthcare provider, and be submitted to the school.
Utah law allows trained individuals to administer STOCK epinephrine to those suspected of experiencing a severe allergy that DO NOT have a specific AAEP on file. This includes students, staff and visitors.

- Blended Learning American Heart Association (AHA) – complete either of the online courses linked below at home or on the go, on your preferred desktop or tablet device. Print your validation certificate, then contact any American Heart Association (AHA) instructor and arrange for your physical skills pass-off. Many of the school nurses are certified AHA instructors.

Complete the required Vector Health Emergencies: Diabetes Awareness and Medication Administration: Glucagon trainings. Submit copies of your certificates to your assigned nurse.
Coordinate with your school nurse to arrange in person, hands-on training as needed.

Coordinate with your school nurse to determine if further training is needed using the American Diabetes Association (ADA) online training modules linked below. Submit the short quiz found at the end of each ADA module.
G Tube/G J Tube feedings and medication administration are typically provided to students by SpEd staff. Contact your assigned school nurse to determine which trainings linked below you should review and to arrange for in person training and physical skills pass off.
If medication is to be administered via the G or G J Tube, the Vector Medication Administration Basics training must also be completed. Provide your certificate to your assigned nurse. The School Medication Authorization form must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian and healthcare provider, available here.
Review the Flow Chart and watch the videos linked below. Notify parents/guardians for all head bumps/injuries.
When responding to a head injury, follow the instructions in the Flow Chart below, and use the Checklist to monitor the student. Document in PowerSchool Health Office Visits. Keep a copy of each individual student Checklist and give a copy to the parent/guardian, along with the Parent Notification Letter.

The WCSD follows the guidance and recommendations provided by the Utah Department of Health & Human Services and the American Academy of Pediatrics in regards to illness and communicable disease. Consult with your assigned school nurse as needed. Refer to illness/communicable disease forms here.

A student injury severe enough to cause the loss of one-half day or more of school and/or warrant medical attention and treatment needs to be reported by school secretaries to the Utah Dept. of Health & Human Services “Student Injury Report System (SIRS)” online:

- Immunization Exemptions – Information for Parents. Students claiming an exemption from the required vaccinations must have their legally responsible individual complete the online education module, or receive in-person consultation at a local health department, AND provide a copy of the completed form to the school. For a medical exemption from the required immunizations, the student’s legally responsible individual must provide to the school a completed Utah vaccination exemption form AND a written statement signed by a licensed healthcare provider stating that, due to the physical condition of the student/child, administration of the vaccine would endanger the child’s life or health.
In order to access the Utah Immunization exemption module, you will first need a Utahid account. If you don’t have a Utahid account go to https://id.utah.gov to create an account. Once you have created your Utahid account, you will need to go to the exemption module instruction page linked below, scroll down and click on “access the Online Education Module”, and begin the module
When parents complete the immunization education exemption module, a vaccination education form is sent to an Email address they provided to the UDOH. Parents must bring this form to their child’s school to complete the student’s exemption from state immunization requirements.

School staff may administer medication to students after completing online and in person training with their assigned school nurse, along with parent/guardian submission of completed medication authorization forms.
1. Complete the required Vector Medication Administration Basics training. Submit your certificate to your assigned school nurse.
2. Review the WCSD Guide to Medication Administration document, sign and give a copy to your assigned school nurse. Keep a copy for your reference.
3. Review the District Policy 2320 Medication Policy For Students, sign, give a copy to your assigned school nurse. Keep a copy for reference.
Naloxone (Narcan®) reverses and stops an opioid overdose. It saves lives, and is legal to have and administer!

Virtual Training- preregister here, attend the online, scheduled virtual training, and you will be sent a free injectable naloxone rescue kit. All information collected is completely confidential.
Staff administering oxygen are required to complete the Vector Medication Administration Basics training, and view the items in the links below. Contact your assigned school nurse to arrange for a physical skills pass off.
Oxygen is considered a “medication”, therefore the Utah Department of Health generic School Medication Authorization form must be completed, linked here.
Oxygen tanks (cylinders) are potentially dangerous. When in use, or if leaking, they can increase the oxygen content in a confined space, therefore increasing flammability of surrounding objects. Tanks can become projectiles if dropped, fractured or if parts are damaged in any way.
Store tanks in an upright position- secured to a wall or in a stand, or lying on their sides on the floor. Secure tanks so they do not roll around.

Oxygen in Use signs should be posted at the entrance of all building sections, classrooms, or health offices; on vehicles during transportation of students; and wherever oxygen is stored or potentially used.

Seizure Rescue Medication Instructional Handouts
The STOP THE BLEED® Interactive Course guides individuals through the three methods of bleeding control using video demonstrations, interactive learning, and spontaneous quizzes. This STOP THE BLEED® Interactive Course is free to all staff and can be taken multiple times to learn and refresh knowledge of the STOP THE BLEED® Course. Estimated time of completion is 25 minutes.
